Healthy Kids, Healthy Choices

Everyone deserves a real shot at a better future.

At 5 Loaves Ministries, we've seen families come back for help generation after generation. That's exactly why we created Healthy Kids, Healthy Choices — a one-week intensive program for teens ages 13–17 designed to break that cycle before it starts.

We bring together community leaders, business owners, and local experts to pour into young people all week long, covering nutrition, mental health, financial literacy, career readiness, and leadership. We feed them breakfast and lunch every day. And when the week is over, they leave with real skills, real confidence, and a certificate of completion.

A Week That Changes Everything

Nutrition & Fitness

A community expert teaches teens how to fuel their body, move with purpose, and make choices that last.

Mental Health

A licensed counselor covers mental health awareness, how to ask for help, and how to show up for a struggling friend. Including honest conversation about healthy relationships.

Financial Literacy

Real-world budgeting, money management, and what nobody teaches you in school about taking care of yourself financially.

Career Readiness

Interview skills, how to dress and show up, trades and non-college career paths from HVAC to the Armed Forces and what it actually takes to get hired.

Leadership

Teens volunteer right here at the pantry, then hear from community leaders about what it means to give back and lead from where you stand.

Teens receive breakfast and lunch daily, a certificate of completion, and a 6-month follow-up check-in to see how they're putting their skills to work.

Why it matters

We've talked to other nonprofits in our area who are seeing second-, third-, even fourth- and fifth-generation families come back for help. That's not a failure of the families; it's a signal that something different is needed.

  • Generational cycles of poverty are real, and they can be broken
  • Teens are at a critical decision-making window
  • Access to mentors and practical skills changes outcomes
  • Pre- and post-surveys track real growth over the week

Our goal is simple: in 10 years, we want to see these teens come back and say, "How can I help?"

Serving teens in the Sachse, Murphy, Richardson, Rowlett, Garland and Wylie area?

Healthy Kids, Healthy Choices is a free program for teens ages 13–17. No paperwork, no judgment, just an investment in their future. If you know a young person who would benefit, we'd love to connect.
